Hafnium wire is relatively soft, making it easy to roll and forge. Hafnium can also be machined. Caution is required when processing, as hafnium can easily ignite when finely crushed into chips into powder. When compact, hafnium does not burn. Hafnium's chemical properties are comparable to titanium and zirconium. In chip form and especially in powder form, hafnium is very reactive, meaning it is highly flammable and explosive. In closed form it is rather inert, but this changes at higher temperatures.
